It's a perennial problem, which comes round again and again, each year, regularly, not to say frequently and repeatedly! Like another beer-based chart I previously highlighted, here's one to help assess the right beer for you.
But worry no longer –for the solution may be here in the handy compact chart below made by the kindly souls at Eating the Road. The only problem, however, are the solutions. Beer is, of course, a matter of taste and great and heated debate inevitably follows the question of the right or best beer –surely it depends upon the circumstances in which it is consumed. Left to your own devises I am sure the solution presents itself upon the first glimpse of the fridge/esky/7-11/bar taps/park bench. I sometimes get a taste for a familiar beer before even entering a watering hole, but in general I'm a sucker for what I see first. Advertising and brewery companies know this and do very well out of their suggestions to the slavish, knavish and stupid... erm...
So, in analysis of the chart, I completely concur with the BrewDog Scottish thing and like the idea that Corona is a little more expensive. I'm glad to see that Beck's and Heine drinkers were no longer living with their parents, but why would a pint of Foster's or Carlsberg made one "wordly". I can only assume this to be a mere North American perspective –drinking the tasteless Foster's in Australia or the UK is a pitiable offence, like having too many sugars in your tea. Few, I'm sure, have suspected Michelob and Bass drinkers for not liking beer. And to think that Harp, a mysterious resurrected Irish beer more popular in the 60s-80s, Heedcrackin' Geordie Nukey Brown Ale and the old 'Wifebeater' Stella must be now associated with recycling is... well, it's a mystery: could somebody please elucidate? The final question mark must surely fall on the inclusion of Double Diamond (also popular in ye olden days of ye 60s) in the 'Loving Beer (but-not-too-much)' category –maybe it really does work wonders! What about Worthington E, Carling Black Label or Watney's Red Barrel? Oh, I don't know –click to enlarge the chart or otherwise simper on Youtube to these nostalgic hop-filled moments.
